Kingdom Hearts 4 director addresses whether Final Fantasy characters will return or not

When Square Enix released the original Kingdom HeartsOne of its biggest draws was the inclusion of Final Fantasy characters. After all, this was the first time that many of these characters had appeared outside of their own titles. However, subsequent Kingdom Hearts games veered less towards Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts III No characters from the series appeared. In a new interview with detective game, series creator Tetsuya Nomura revealed that Final Fantasy characters were initially used to “give a helping hand” to introduce players to the main Kingdom Hearts movie, which is not necessary now. However, Nomura did not rule out the appearance of Final Fantasy characters in Kingdom Hearts IV.

“with Kingdom Hearts IIISince we have so many original Kingdom Hearts characters, it was hard to find the space to include more Final Fantasy characters. We’re trying to find a good balance for that. I know some fans were worried about that and weren’t very happy and wanted to see more Final Fantasy characters,” Nomura told Game Informer. This is something we definitely think about. But just with the sheer number of original characters we have now, it’s hard to tell the exact balance that it will be and how it will play out in Kingdom Hearts IV. We really can’t give you a firm answer on this matter yet.”

Nomura is right that Kingdom Hearts has a lot more characters and plot threads to draw on now than it did in 2002. However, some Final Fantasy fans really love seeing those characters in Kingdom Hearts games alongside the main cast and Disney favorites. Nomura’s comments make it hard to say if we’ll see characters like Cloud, Sephiroth or Selphie in Kingdom Hearts IV. I hope Nomura won’t close the door to that possibility, if the story presents an opportunity. Either way, Nomura is clearly aware of what fans are hoping to see!
